Neither teaching nor learning cease with the end of classes each day; they merely take on more subtle forms. By providing a nurturing community of faculty, staff, dorm parents, alumni, and student prefects, the Stuart Hall boarding program embodies the School’s mission to prepare students of all faiths for success in universities worldwide and for engaged lives of intellectual curiosity, creativity and contribution.
The School’s mission is the foundation of the Residence Life Mission:
“The Stuart Hall Residence Life program honors the trust bestowed upon the School by parents and students to provide a safe, supportive, and 民彩网平台like environment that develops students’ understanding of and respect for themselves and their role in the community and world.”
Our Location: In-town Boarding
Our Residence Life Program at Stuart Hall School takes the college-preparatory experience one step further by introducing students to campus living. Our students enjoy the freedom of living in a safe, small town where local coffee shops, restaurants, stores, farmers' markets, and other points of interest are just blocks away from our historic campus. In-town boarding provides a venue like no other to learn valuable skills of personal initiative, community living, and respect for local culture. While always maintaining the utmost standards for student safety and care, we encourage our boarders to both experience life beyond our campus boundaries and take part in the life of the School.
Find out why Staunton, Virginia is rated one of the top ten small towns in America by the Smithsonian!
Dorm Parents and On Campus Faculty
The Residence Life Program at Stuart Hall creates a nurturing community in accordance with its Mission by having a staff specially trained and well suited to support our boarding students. Dorm Parents, adults who live on dorm and supervise a specific hall, assist students with life away from 民彩网平台, and provide a School presence evenings and weekends. On Campus Faculty work at Stuart Hall and live on campus or on dorm, serving in roles similar to Dorm Parents. A member of the On Campus Faculty or a Dorm Parent is on duty at all times to monitor student permissions and sign-outs, secure the building, distribute medicine, proctor study hall, and ensure that standards and policies of Stuart Hall are maintained. Our On Campus Faculty and Dorm Parents bring a wealth of experience and a diversity of talent to our community.
Sustaining a caring environment at Stuart Hall is a responsibility of all members of this community, not only the adults. To this end, experienced boarding students may become Prefects. These young men and women form the backbone of the student body, acting as mentors to newcomers, friends to returners, and leaders by example to all. They are assigned to specific halls where they help to maintain a clean living space and promote a positive atmosphere. Prefects are a valuable link between their peers and the Residence Life Staff; additionally, there is an international Prefect who acts as liaison to the Staff for fellow international boarders.
